FAQHow do I join the library? Can I join the library even though I don’t live in the area?
Go to the Join the Library Museum Gallery page and follow the steps provided. It is free to join the library but we need to see two forms of identification, one with your current address e.g. drivers licence, bank statement. Yes, you can join the library if you don’t live in the area.

How many items can I borrow and for how long?

How many times can I renew an item?
You can renew your loans twice before the due date if they are not reserved for another person.
To do this login to My Account  on our website, visit us in person or call us at Hurstville Library 9330 6142 or Penshurst Library 9330 6422.

I’ve received an overdue notice from the library for items I have returned/never borrowed. What should I do?
If you have received notification for items that you have returned/never borrowed please contact the library.

What happens if I lose an item borrowed from the library?
If you have lost an item you will be charged for the cost to replace the item plus a non-refundable processing fee.

What is My Account?

My Account
allows you to access your library account details. Here you can see what items you have on loan, renew your loans, your reservations, view a history of your previous loans, view & update your contact details and more.

How do I find out my PIN number?
If we have a record of your email address we can send you an email containing your current PIN. Click on Forgot your PIN?  for further information. Please ask at the library if you do not have an email address.

How do I reserve items held by the library?
In order to place a reservation, you first need to perform a search using the library catalogue. As you look through the records retrieved by your search you can place a reservation for one or several items. For further information go to the Reserve Items page.

You don’t have an item I want. Can you get it for me?
If you can’t find the item you are looking for in our collection we can often obtain it for you by Inter Library Loan or by purchasing a copy for the library collection. Click on Can’t Find It for further information.

Can I donate books and other items to the library?
The library accepts donations of items that are current and in good condition but reserves the right to decide whether items should be added to the library collection. For further information please read our Library’s Collection Policy

How can I become a library volunteer?
From the LMG homepage click on the links About > Get Involved> Volunteer, Internships & Work Experience to complete our online form and for further information.

Do you have a Justice of the Peace service?
A Justice of the Peace service is available at Hurstville City Library. Further information about  JP services can be found here on the LMG website and on the Hurstville Council website.
As this is a volunteer service it is always advisable to contact the library on the day of your visit to check the JP Service is available.
